Reegan Savoy Houston

Name: Reegan Savoy Houston

Age you feel: 26...but in the 70s

Cultural Background: African American + German

Shopping mantra: Go with the pricier item, if it’s the vision.  It’ll save you $$$ in the long run.

Creating this brand, what were the main design elements in curating the pieces that you were most concerned about?

I needed and wanted the brand to authentically feel like an extension of myself. I looked at the vintage, home decor landscape, and many of the shops looked and felt the same. I wanted a chance to design something that educated, celebrated and curated a space that was warm for the objects that were being debuted.

What goes into looking for these pieces?

I look for pieces that are timeless and that have sex appeal. I want any person’s purchase to be a conversation-piece in their home. Like, hey, what is that on/in your barcart/your shelf/your coffee table/your office?

As a business owner that started her brand in the midst of a pandemic, what were the internal and external challenges that you overcame to get where you are?

Being financially sound has been an external/internal struggle. I have had to reel in my frivolous spending a ton.  I am a risk-taker at heart--after all, I quit my job at the height of the pandemic (I do not recommend this to everyone, but I have zero regrets) because I believed in my vision. Being an entrepreneur is not all glitz and glam, but what has been self-gratifying is knowing that at the heart of who I am, I am a creator + senior producer that knows how to make any and everything work + look good if I have to.

What would you tell someone who is apprehensive about shopping vintage?

It is an investment. Many things, spanning outside of vintage, have been known to depreciate in value over time. Purchasing vintage pieces gives you a chance to have a piece of history in your possession, but also have a higher chance of being able to resell it in the future at almost the same price that you purchased it for.

How do you come up with a matching playlist with each collection?

Music has been and is still a huge part of my life. Prior to creating our monthly playlists for each collection, I curate the objects that are to be released first. From there, I hone in on what vibe the curation gives off. I spend maybe two days on average perfecting the sequencing, and then I release it.

For those trying to create a vibe in their living space that reflects Savoy’s moodboard, what are five ways to do so?

1. What muse are you? Are we channeling Diana Ross (glitzy) OR Donyale Luna (sultry)?

2. What is the tone? Do you want your space to feel warm, cool or vibrant?

3. What is the vibe? Are you more up-tempo like Fela Kuti or are you sensual like Teddy Pendergrass?

Walk us through your routine when getting ready for bed?

As of late, if we are being honest, my nightly routine isn't as structured as what I would like it to be. I am on my phone before bed, I am engulfed with thoughts about my career + my next business move for SO, and any business-related tasks that I need to focus on for the following day.

But, my mornings are very structured. I wake up around 7:30 a.m. and do my bathroom duties. From there, I meditate, workout, then start my work day. I intermittently fast, so lunch starts at noon lol.
