what we’re loving and trying
Kamama Beadwork:
Amazing artist and beadwork maker, Native womxn.
Orenda Tribe:
Vintage, upcycled, and hand-dyed (clothing, jewelry, and art). Native-owned, and their community initiatives and way they build their business w/ intention is incredible.
Girlfriend Collective:
Brand that makes activewear out of recycled water bottles. It is not WOC owned, though the couple who founded it is a Viet man and a white womxn.
Amarilo Jewelry:
Solid gold jewelry brand run by Asian womxn.
Acure
particularly their brightening facial scrub: I'm fairly certain the founder is a Latinx womxn.
Drunk Elephant Happi Scalp
it’s a scrub for your scalp if you have issues with flakiness and dry scalp. Also, it’s great to clean my scalp since I use a lot of product to keep my natural curls soft and shiny. I use this once every 4-6 weeks or as needed. Definitely great to have on hand. For $36, it is a great value since it lasts for a while.
Athleta’s biker shorts with pockets.
I got the maroon color and I absolutely love these shorts. They are the perfect length on my thighs don’t ride up and have great pockets on the sides where I can put my phone in while I run or bike. They are high waisted and keep everything tight around the tummy. Best of all, they are very comfortable and flattering around the booty and midsection.
Fenty Skincare
the cleanser and toner have been doing wonders for my face. I know a lot of people were turned off because of the fragrance but it’s working for me (and I have super sensitive skin so that says a lot)
Tree Hit Vitamin C Shea Sugar Scrub
helped me a lot with my summer peelings and preparing me for the winter. Leaves your skin feeling so soft.
Rock a pair every time I do need to leave the house, even if it’s to the supermarket. Mask + Sunglasses the perfect ‘l’m running errands’ combo.
Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream + creamy eye treatment with avocado.
My skin doesn’t require a lot of maintenance so my main priority is always keeping it super moisturized and with that glow! Kiehls Ultra facial cream has been my favorite day and nighttime moisturizer ever because it’s super lightweight and leaves my skin feeling smooth and moisturized. The under eye treatment has been helping reduce puffiness for me and leaves a shiny glow that brightens my eye area.
G-thang by Breukelen Polished.
It’s a blue/teal color that reminds me of a summer vacation somewhere with a crystal blue ocean. It’s owned by a black woman, and is vegan and cruelty free which is an added bonus.
Olapex hair perfector in N3 for my dry bleached curls.
My girl Noelle recommended it because my hair needed protein after getting it colored.
Skin Rescue Daily Face Cream oil free for moisturizer.
It isn’t oily or thick so leaves the right amount of moisture especially on hot days. I don’t like super watery moisturizer.
Chanel hydra beauty lip balm.
I got it as a gift. Lost it in a purse and re-located it! I really love it but for $50 it’s truly just a treat (ty to that gift giver).
Green nail polish named “Goldie” from Urban outfitters (On sale for $5).
It’s bright enough to stand out but muted enough for the Fall.
Fenty Beauty Sculpting Eyebrow Wax pencil.
I’m really loving this. It lets me sculpt my brows and then I go over them with my brown brow pencil to fill in and make them thicker. Haven’t gotten my brows done in like 9 months so this is very helpful!
Ritual candles from House of Hoodoo
BASED in New Orleans AND Owned by a Dominican/Haitian woman.
Agua Florida
for protection and cleansing during these trying ass times.
Peppermint tea.
It’s a generic brand. But it really sets the day and makes me feel like I am at the spa.
