7 THINGS I LEARNED AT #WEALLGROW SUMMIT IN L.A.

The #WeAllGrow Latina Summit was a magical day I didn’t expect to have. It was my first time attending the Wellness Day provided by #WeAllGrow Latina Network, a summit that happens once a year focused on the power of building community for Latinx women. This year the summit took place at the Hotel Maya in Long Beach, California, a space that was super beautiful with breath taking views — perfect for a deep dive around personal care and growth. I started my day off on the right foot with a breakfast provided by the summit, which I gladly participated in as it was free99. I then met up with my homegirl Zoila Darton, the Founder of Word Agency whom so graciously invited me so that I could represent theGIRLMOB. I ended up bumping into many other women I’ve met/follow via Instagram in LA that work in the media industry— a plus as a hustlers game is built on networking! The day was full of workshops, panels and exercises that were led by women who shared their stories with us… to say they are warriors is an understatement. Below I’ve listed 8 things that I walked away with from attending the #WeAllGrow Wellness day and found worth sharing with my fellow MOB:

  1. Don’t take your popola, vajayjay, totis (whatever name you have for your vagina lol)  and pelvis area for granted. It surprisingly needs the same spiritual work we put into the rest of our mind and body for various reasons and the amazing Brujas of Brooklyn can help you have a better understanding of how to do just that! Follow them on Instagram to learn more about Yoni: Woke womb work which is a womb yoga, chord-cutting ritual.

  2. Reclaiming our ancestral knowledge in order to heal our mind, body and soul. Ask your family as many questions as possible in order to heal deep rooted traumas that have been passed on to you {consciously or unconsciously].

  3. Take control of your health! Get tested for the BRCA gene mutation that targets Latinx people and breast cancer; catch it before it catches you!

  4. Latinx Therapy is a website created for us! Click on the link and search for a Latinx therapist in your city. Seeing a therapist is a great way to nurture your mental health, and finding one that is culturally competent and understands the intricacies of growing up with a Dominican+ Catholic mom is muy muy important.

  5. Creating a vision board really helps with manifestation. Even if you don’t believe in magic, believe in the power of repetition. If you see the things you want on a daily basis you are much more likely to work towards getting them as you’re conditioning yourself to seek them. Fun fact: In 1985 Jim Carrey wrote himself a $10 million check for “acting services rendered”, dating it 10 years in the future (Thanksgiving 1995) and kept it in his wallet. And then, just before Thanksgiving 1995, he found out he was going to make ten million dollars for Dumb and Dumber.

  6. There is a unique power in sisterhood. Being a mean girl is wack. Having women in your life that you can laugh and cry with is important in this life. If you are having trouble making adult friendships hit me up on the gram or join TGM at their next event in NYC!

  7. MEDITATE, MEDITATE, MEDITATE *Kendrick Lamar’s voice* — This was more of a reminder for me and I know you’re probably like who has time? YOU MAKE THE TIME FAM. When you’re showering in the am you can meditate. When you’re about to fall asleep you can meditate. When you are on the bus to work— you already know. I’m challenging myself to do 10 minutes of meditating twice a week for June.

Thank you again Zoila and We All Grow Latina Network for having me and theGIRLMOB. That was a really great experience and an awesome way to kick start my month!
