SEX AND THE CITY REIMAGINED
In the spirit of talking sex this month I thought it would be fun to reimagine one of the most iconic shows where friendship and sex were at the forefront. By the time I saw Sex and the City the show was off air and I was going off to college, but regardless of that— I was hooked on it like the rest of the women of my generation. Being from NYC and seeing Carrie and her girls strolling through the Village figuring out their lives was something special, despite the fact that they were four white women with $$$ ... because I still don't buy Carrie could afford her lifestyle on a writers salary. I learned a few things from that show (including that dating can be fun but also messy AF). Any who, when I did the post on Charmed Reimagined it made me feel really good to think of characters that I grew up with in a more relatable way... so, here's another one! Cus' why not.
GUGU MBATHA-RAW: CARRIE BRADSHAW
Thinking of who could be Carrie was harder than the other characters. I wanted someone who I've seen be vulnerable on camera but also fun and with a little sass. I really enjoyed Gugu on Beyond the Lights (watch it if you haven't!). I haven't seen her do TV yet which is also why I thought she'd be dope as my other favs have already been leading ladies (hey Kerry hey!).
DAScHA POLANCO: SAMANTHA JONES
Carrie had her true right hand which was Samantha... and Sam kept it ALL THE WAY ONE HUNDRED. I'd like to think Dascha is naturally like this, maybe because she's Dominican or maybe it's because her instagram says it so. I think she'd do the character justice and then some + she'd be fun to watch play the boys like a violin. Ya lo saben!
STEPHANIE BEATRIZ: MIRANDA HOBBES
Stephanie is so awesome on Brooklyn Nine Nine. She's 90% sarcastic and 10% soft and loving... all while kicking ass at her job. I think this Colombiana would be awesome as Miranda the lawyer. Okurrr.
JAMIE CHUNG: CHARLOTTE YORK
Oh Charlotte. What a journey. Always trynna find a man. Eventually she did! Someone that was not what she imagined, but rather the right partner she deserved. Jamie gives me sweet gal vibes, which is what Charlotte was (she was also hella emotional! Pisces?). Jamie also has bomb ass style, and can give Charlotte's character an upgrade from Upper East Side to Lower East Side.
MAHERSHALA ALI: MR BIG
BIG PAPI. I truly don't think this deserves any reasons. The man can do no wrong. The minute he smiles and releases a small chuckle my knees would buckle (BARS). So I think him and Gugu would really sell it on-screen.
JAY HERNANDEZ: STEVE BRADY
The guy with one ball that got Miranda preggo. Jay has the lightness and chillness to give Stephanie a run for her money, and eventually win her over.
EKA DARVILLE: SMITH JERROD
Ya'll remembered Smith? Pretty boy swag. Meet Eka, who has the kind of hair Smith wishes he had! Eka has luxurious curls my friends. He's grown on me this second season of Jessica Jones on Netflix and would love to see more of him. PLUS he's Australian and can play Smith with his natural accent (me muero). Not to mention I can see Dascha being smitten by homie, and then being like "I Love you, but I love me more".
ADAM RODRIGUEZ: AIDAN SHAW
Till this day the Team Aidan and Team Mr. Big poll is going. Aidan was more Southern comfort than Midtown when it came to the way he treated Carrie, PERO she ultimately just didn't want that kind of love in her life. Adam is Puerto Rican and Cuban and based on my single days I know for a fact that the men from those islands have finesse AND love — coming out of their pores.
DEV PATEL: HARRY GOLDENBLATT
Umm hello cute couple alert. Charlotte and Harry were crazy about each other, but before they could make it official Charlotte had to convert to Judaism. And THAT was a whole season. I could see Dev playing a traditional Indian character whose family gives Jamie shade as their relationship grows, but ultimately accepts her — without her converting to anything. Those two can teach us about interracial and interfaith relationships. Lets go!
Let me know your feels and who'd you cast in your version!
